The journey of Child Rehabilitation Centre (CRC) began in 2009 when it was inaugurated by Dr. Sumit Shinde with the support of Dr. Reena Shinde and Mr. Sushant Shinde. Initially, CRC was a one-man operation with Dr. Sumit conducting individual sessions for children. The primary focus was on addressing the individual needs of each child, laying the foundation for what would become a comprehensive center for child development.
In 2010, CRC introduced Outdoor Group Therapy to address the social adaptability and skills of children. This therapy, which began with small groups of 3-4 children, aimed to improve social interactions and play behavior. Over time, it has grown into a comprehensive technique that remains a cornerstone of our approach.
The Lalbaug Raja Darshan initiative was also launched in 2010, where parents and children from CRC visited Lalbaug Raja. This annual trip aimed to spread awareness about child development and provide positive energy and motivation to the families involved.
Standardized Psychological Testing :
In 2011, CRC began standardized psychological testing to understand each child’s level of functioning better. These tests helped accelerate the development process and provided the clinical team with valuable insights to address areas of concern more effectively. Psychological counseling for parents and families was also introduced to involve them actively in the child's development journey
By 2012, CRC had established a multidisciplinary team consisting of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, counselors, and special educators. This team worked collaboratively under one roof, implementing structured documentation, setting short-term goals, providing home programs, and following clinical protocols for each child. This holistic approach ensured a well-rounded development for the children.
In 2013, CRC launched the Child Learning Centre to specifically address academic skill development. Many school-going children with good cognitive levels faced challenges in reading, writing, calculations, and social skills. The Child Learning Centre was established to provide tailored approaches to help these children overcome their academic difficulties and achieve future success.
Psychological Counselling :
Psychological counseling became an integral part of CRC's services in 2014. This initiative aimed to support families by addressing their emotional and psychological needs, thereby enhancing the overall development process for the children
Home and School Assessments :
By 2014, CRC had also started conducting home and school assessments to ensure that children received consistent support in all their environments. These assessments helped tailor the therapy to the child’s daily surroundings, providing a more effective and cohesive approach to their development.
Father-Child Bonding :
In 2015, CRC launched a unique series called Father-Child Bonding to highlight and strengthen the role of fathers in child development. This initiative provided fathers with tools and techniques to actively participate in their child’s growth and well-being.
Play and Communication :
Play and Communication programs were introduced in 2015 to empower parents by teaching them effective developmental approaches to use at home. These programs focused on enhancing communication and play skills, which are crucial for a child’s development.
Parenting workshops, also known as home program workshops, began in 2016. These workshops provided parents with strategies to develop communication and play skills in their children during different stages of childhood. They also emphasized the role of parenting in the developmental process.
Remedial Education :
Remedial education was introduced in 2016 to assist children with academic challenges. These sessions aimed to empower children by enhancing their academic performance and helping them overcome learning difficulties.
We offer a wide range of occupational therapy services, including pediatric therapy, sensory integration therapy, and rehabilitation therapy for adults.
New Branches :
Due to the increasing demand from parents, CRC expanded its services by opening new branches in Koparkhairane in 2014, Kharghar in 2015, and Chembur in 2016. These branches aimed to provide accessible and comprehensive child development services to more families.
Stress Management Centre :
In 2017, CRC launched the Stress Management Centre, inaugurated by Dr. Niraj Rawani, a renowned psychiatrist in Navi Mumbai. This center focused on promoting mental well-being and helping individuals lead lives filled with positive feelings, happiness, confidence, and peace.
The LD Rehab Centre was established in November 2017 at D.S. High School in Sion. Inaugurated by Dr. Rukhshana Shonapurwala, this center aimed to provide rehabilitation services to underprivileged school-going children with academic and behavior issues in the Sion vicinity.
Vashi Branch :
In March 2018, CRC expanded its services to Vashi, with a new branch inaugurated by MLA Shri Sandeepji Naik and Dr. Shashi Oberai, Vice President of AIOTA. This branch was established in response to parents' demand for accessible child development services in the area.
Child Learning Centre Relocation :
In September 2018, the Child Learning Centre in Nerul moved to a larger facility to better accommodate the growing number of children and the expanding range of services offered.
Nagpur Branch :
In May 2019, CRC ventured outside of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai by opening a branch in Nagpur. Despite the challenges of establishing a center 800 km away from the headquarters, CRC successfully introduced its ability-based approach in a city previously unfamiliar with such services. The Nagpur branch now caters to over 60 families dealing with child development issues.
Thane and Dombivali Branches :
CRC continued to expand by opening new branches in Thane and Dombivali, providing developmental services to children in these regions.
The journey of CRC from a rehabilitation center to a comprehensive development center has been remarkable. What started as a solo effort by Dr. Sumit Shinde has grown into a multidisciplinary team dedicated to serving the child development sector. CRC continues to innovate and expand, ensuring that every child receives the support they need to thrive.
